(Controversial?)Movie Casting News
Posted by jor on February 21, 2008

First what I think is good news: Both Gambit and Deadpool will be in the X-Men Origins: Wolverine movie. Deadpool is a character I don’t know much about, just that he’s a snarky assassin that has some history with the Weapon X project. In my mostly uninformed opinion this role is perfectly cast with Ryan Reynolds. And it seems like everyone’s been waiting for Gambit to finally be in a movie, and wishes achieve reality thanks, in part, to Taylor Kitsch, who will play the Cajun card-slinger. Kitsch has been in a few movies before (including The Covenant) and most recently has been playing Tim Riggins on one of the best shows EVER, “Friday Night Lights.” So I’m excited about both of these announcements, but also a little apprehensive about the quality of Kitsch’s Cajun accent (he’s Canadian, so maybe the French-ness of the accent will be okay?).
An announcement that I’m not so happy about is that Leonardo DiCaprio, an actor that, for reasons yet unknown to me, I will never be able to take seriously in any role, has decided he wants to produce a live-action version of the well-known Japanese anime film, Akira. Oh, and he will be starring as Kaneda. Why? I’d love to see how a live-action version of this highly stylish anime would turn out, but DiCaprio’s involvement makes me lose almost all interest. Oh, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt will play Tetsuo (it’s been so long since I’ve seen that movie, I don’t even know who that is). I guess we’ll see how this develops.

He’s .. number… 23? 23 OH GOD
Kaneda’s best friend, with the goopy homemade biomechanical arm.
You know. “KANEEDDAAAA~~~!!!”
“TETSUOOOO~~~~!!!”
Somehow… those two people, DiCaprio as Kaneda and JGL (who I -love- as an actor) as Tetsuo…. suck all my faith away from that movie.

One thing tho…I did always think Leo sort of looks like a live-action anime character. At least, maybe more-so than most people.
